Right now, the M2 Pro Mac Mini has more CPU power than a base Mac Pro. The machine is not only supper powerful, supper efficient and supper small but also goes at a really good price starting at $1299.
Key Features:
Up to 12-core CPU
Up to 19-core GPU
Up to 32GB unified memory
200GB/s memory bandwidth.
8TB SSD
Four thunderbolt 4 ports
10GB Ethernet Port
HDMI 2.1 Port
Two USB-A Ports
Wi-Fi 6E.
Headphone jack.
Conclusion.
The four thunderbolt 4 ports means you can connect up to three external displays.
The machine’s updated architecture and the 2 extra cores over the M2 Mac Mini make the M2 pro more performant.
It is now benchmarking over the M1 pro and the M1 Max in the CPU department.
There are also notable incremental improvements when benchmarking with Cinebench. Moving up in chips from base, to Pro to Max there is a GPU improment and so M2 Pro does great here too.
The M2 Pro has a way higher sustained multi core performance ceiling. For things that have longer compiled times or render times like video editing and app development you can awesomely do them on the M2 Pro.
The price of the M2 Pro at $1299 is not cheap ofcourse but comparing with the MacBook Pro with the same system on a chip starting at $1999, is pretty good.
The iMac is cool but its not for everyone, for a while now even when M2 is out its stuck with the upgraded M1 chip. The Mac studio is excellent in the highest end configurations but the Mac Mini slots in really nicely underneath all that.
